Gurgaon winters are short, foggy and built for street food. The same stalls you walk past in June become destinations by late November, when a plate of something hot off the tawa is the best argument for leaving the house. This is our trail for the season, what to eat, where the classics live, and how to do it without regretting the morning after.

Start with the parathas

Winter is paratha season, full stop. Aloo, gobhi, mooli, the trinity of the cold months, arrive stuffed, crisped in ghee and paired with white butter and pickle. The old-city stalls around Sadar Bazar and the sector markets do them best in the early morning, when the first batch comes off the griddle for the walkers and shopkeepers. Our standing list of the best paratha spots in Gurgaon covers the full route.

The chaap and momo circuit

Soya chaap smoking over coals is Gurgaon’s great vegetarian winter smell, and the malai and achari versions taste twice as good when you are eating them in a jacket. Pair the stop with the city’s momo carts, steamed for the cautious, fried for the committed, and the fiery red chutney that makes both worthwhile. We keep running lists of the best soya chaap and the best momos in Gurgaon if you want names and landmarks.

Chhole bhature for the brave

A winter Sunday earns a chhole bhature, and the city’s legacy counters still fry to order, puffed, blistered and indefensible in the best way. Go before noon; the famous places run out, and a 2 pm bhatura is never the same animal. The chhole bhature guide has our picks.

End hot and sweet

Close the trail the way the season demands: jalebis fried fresh and dunked while they still crackle, gajar ka halwa where the sweet shops stir it in wide kadhais, and a kulhad of masala chai from whichever corner stall has the longest queue of office-goers, the queue is the review. For dessert-first planning, see our list of the best sweet shops in Gurgaon.

Trail rules

  • Eat where the turnover is high, busy stalls mean fresh oil and fresh batches.
  • Carry small notes and UPI both; the best stalls are impatient.
  • Fog slows the city after 9 pm, do the trail as an evening, not a midnight, plan.
  • Share plates. The whole point is covering more ground.
