Khan market’s Saleem Javed Rule the Rolls is an icon today. With a delectable spin on rolls and kebabs, Saleem and Javed (the Khan Market brothers) have put this place on the gastronomical map of India’s capital. Saleem and Javed, have transformed Rule the Rolls to a serious stalwart. However, the journey started in the 1960s when their father, Haji Banda Hassan, the founder, moved to Jama Masajid (old Delhi) and learnt to make tikkas and kebabs.
In 1971, he participated in an exhibition to introduce his tikka and Kebabs to new his new customers in Pragati Maidan. His food was appreciated and got an offer to open a tiny kebab joint in Khan Market’s baramda in around December 1971, which is today an institution when it comes to kebabs and rolls. His younger son; Saleem joined his father’s business in 1996 and his older son, Javed in 2000 who currently owns Saleem Javed Rule the Rolls. In 1971, Haji Banda Hasan started only two dishes — mutton tikka & mutton seekh kebabs. He also introduced Roomali rolls — it was in an experiment to serve tikka & Kebabs in Roomali roti (wheat-based) and stuffed with onion rings and yoghurt-based pudina chutney — that was appreciated by Delhi people even though worldwide. In 2017 Saleem Javed Rule the Rolls was re-born with a new, new style and with more delicious Mughlai food.
It was a dream to treat the patrons of authentic Mughlai cuisine with modern facilities. The brand continued to appeal to the taste buds till the pandemic hit the world. Nevertheless, the lockdown did not deter the Brothers and they launched Kebab Studio which was an instant hit for takeaways. After its stupendous success, Saleem and Javed gifted the connoisseurs with an exclusive dining experience, an opulent restaurant in Khan Market.
The premium dining space of Saleem Javed Rule the Rolls amps up to treat the crowd to delirious food. Saleem and Javed have curated the décor as well as the cuisine with a theme of ‘Safarnama’ reflecting their journey in the culinary world. Sample flavours with every mouthful of Chicken Malai Roomali, Mutton Kakori Kebab and Fish Tikka Roomali Rolls.
Without a doubt, the Khan market Brothers have placed the prodigious Kebabs and killer Rumali Rolls an indelible part of the city’s culinary chart.
